| Mead |
[Nov. 18th, 2009|10:29 pm] |
Before I broke my wrist I started a batch of mead. Honey wine. Liquid gold. After I got my cast off I started knitting for the physical therapy. I started knitting bottle cozies for when I eventually bottled the mead. It was while knitting one of those cozies that I noticed that one of the yarn combinations I was using would be so much cooler as a thong. Thats about the time my life changed and I started using my powers for evil.
But enough about that ( Today I bottled the mead. 20 bottles of 13% ABV honey wine. Big pictures ) I can't wait to start handing this stuff out. |

What is the exposure time on a picture of a molecule? Sure this may be easy on a stable substance like a nano tube as above but on less stable things I would think that Brownian Motion would cause issues.
Anyway this is what science is about. It makes testable predictions. We have been abstractly visualizing the structure of molecules for a hundred years now. Now we can take detailed pictures that confirm that those visualizations were correct. We "knew" they were correct because the last 100 years of science would have failed if they weren't. But now we can see it in detail.
So that I don't sound too bitter I will leave out all references to pseudo science here. Well save for that last line. |

Friday was some vegetable stock with cilantro, loads of mashed garlic, poached eggs and olive oil drenched bread. Not a big hit in America but it is tasty.
Today was sausage hoagies. What you can't see is that the bread was toasted with a crust of parmesan. I may never do it without that crust again. That was so tasty. |

I figured it out. There is a stratagy used by people that think the world is just 6 thousand years old (procreaters) . In a debate they dump so many false-facts so fast that no one can respond to them all. The goal is to put the other person on the job of cleaning up instead of stating their case. Palin is now introducing that trick into politics. |

[Jul. 24th, 2009|06:21 pm] |
I am pleased to announce the adoption of a new system to our family.

I am not a gamer. The last game system I owned was an original Gameboy. The only computer game I have played in 5 years has been nethack and once I beat that I haven't even played it very often. But I couldn't pass this up. I got this at the Salvation army. 4 controls, 15 games, cable converter, power supply, case and even the base system. Total amount was just $50 and all parts work. This is so much better than my old Intellivision II (the game system time has forgotten) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellivision
$50. Thats all. |

[Jul. 19th, 2009|11:30 pm] |
My old duct tape wallet has served well for almost 9 months. So today I made the ugliest one I could to replace it. You can't tell from the picture but that orange is day glow orange. If I hunted this would be the coolest wallet ever. But I don't so it just looks dorky. |

2003 clearer, actually very clear. wouldn't even peg it as a wheat beer less carbonated more malt aroma (munich, spiced rum) much more prune flavor, this is the main flavor in the beer banana and clove are almost gone no alcohol flavor at all
2009 cloudier more carbonated fruitier aroma (banana) Clove and banana flavors well balanced with prune flavor in the background alcohol is just slightly more prevalent in that you can just barely there in the background spilled on my netbook keyboard. After 20 minutes of touch and go forced rebooting the system seems to be working fine right now other than the built in mouse which no longer works. We will see if any other problems come up as we move along. Well its a few min later and we have occasional freezing if I try to use the mouse.
Both Despite differences in apparent carbonation levels they both have the same mouth feel.
Winner: Even with the beer spilling the 2009 wins. It is a much better balanced beer. Though it may become the most expensive beer I have ever had. Mari disagrees and says that 2003 is more balanced because the flavors don't compete. Also says that banana is there in 2003 but it takes a little while for it to build up.
The netbook will be replaced in a few weeks with a new netbook. It will replace my 5 year old amd 64 system which will have slackware installed on it and become a server for my gnu screen session that will be my main system and the new netbook will become a windows based dumb terminal with flash, aka exactly what this netbook (palsu) is now.
I am taking names for the new system. Naming scheme is based on "fake". Words that mean fake or copy in various languages. Names that can't be used because they have been used for systems in the past are faux, pseudo, proxy, fugazi, betrug, facsimile, mentiroso and unreal[123] (routers). |

 | A few years ago I asked my mom for any of the recipes she used to make for us kids when she was busy going to school and working two jobs. She proved to be very uninformative. She couldn't think of anything that she used to make from back then. So now every few months one of these foods pops into my head.
They weren't great foods. Fish sticks were a staple on Fridays. It wasn't till she got remarried a few times and started getting better jobs closer to home and that paid much better. Today one of those foods popped into my head. Taco salad. Ground beef, taco seasoning, ice burg lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, tortilla chips, sour cream, green onions, jalapenos, and olives. I called up mom to see if I had it right. This is the first time I have bought ice burg lettuce. But I knew that it couldn't be sub'ed out. The crunch wouldn't be there with something else. Normally I avoid ice burg like I would avoid the fleas of late 14th century European rats.
So I made it today. I haven't eaten this in at least 22 years. But the first bite confirmed that I had gotten the proportions exactly right. I washed it down with some hard apple cider. While it gives me fond memories of childhood I am now just a little upset that I never got hard cider as a kid because it was a really good accompaniment to this fatty American classic. |
